Capital One is making it easier for customers to sign into its mobile banking app replacing passwords with a pattern that users trace with their finger.

The new feature is designed to address two of the biggest issues with mobile banking: Bill-pay security and ease of account sign-in. SureSwipe is Capital One’s new pattern sign-in feature for its iOS mobile app.

As much as I hate passwords, I'm just not sure this is the way to do it. To me, it just seems like one more thing to remember. Yes, spatial memory is very different from remembering a series of letters, numbers & symbols, but I just don't see this providing any real improvement to actual security.

That said, great job for Capital One for at least trying to move us forward. Its a tiny innovation, but hopefully we learn something from it and that learning gets us to something even better.
